The Gainesville, FL-based quartet of Morningbell has been incredibly prolific over their 9 year history as they’ve released 5 albums and 9 EPs. Released, last year, Boa Noite, the band’s sixth effort continued the band’s prolific reputation while revealing that they’re a band that prefers to defy expectations and easy categorizations. In fact their 2013 release drew from a wild melange of influences including African field recordings, Hungarian folk music, the poetry of Jorge Luis Borges, old school hip hop, Charles Mingus and others. And although the band recorded and produced the album in their home studio, they wanted an expansive, larger than life sound.
The quartet recently recorded a live version of single titled “It Is Beautiful and It Is Right,” along with a collective of friends on backing vocals, piano and other instruments. Much like their previously recorded work, this song manages to further cement the band’s reputation for being restlessly inventive — unlike Boa Noite, the song manages to be simultaneously hushed but lush. And perhaps more important, it’s a sincere but very pretty love song that has a very simple message — if it’s truly love, well everything is just right.
